I 2017 var et passasjerfly sekunder fra å kræsje med fire fullastede passasjerfly på San Francisco Airport. Hadde denne katastrofen inntruffet hadde det vært en av de verste i historien.
Det var ikke en sky å se på himmelen denne sene juli-kvelden og derfor var flyets automatiske landingssystem slått av. Piloten trodde han fløy mot rullebanen, imens han i realiteten var på vei mot takseringsbanen. Da flyet var ca. 55 m fra bakken ga tårnet beskjed om å avbryte landingen. På sitt laveste var det ca. 4,5 meter mellom flyet og flyene på bakken.
Gjennom maleri fortolker Nils Elvebakk Skalegård dette øyeblikket. —Det sekundet idet piloten innser at han vil fly inn i disse flyene. Maleriene tar for seg hendelsen, sett fra pilotens indre verden.
I utstillingen finnes også et relaterende tekstarbeide, skrevet i samarbeid med forfatter Martin Rydningen.
Skalegård ( f. 1983, NO) er utdannet fra Kunstakademiet i Bergen (BFA, 2011) og Konstögskolan Valand (MFA,2013) Tidligere har han bl.a. stilt ut på Göteborg Konsthall, Malmö Konsthall, Huset for Kunst og Design, Holstebro og Vigeland Museet. I juli vil han være aktuell med den permanent skulpturen Sovende Konge til skulpturparken Skovsnogen i Kibæk.

In 2017 a passenger flight was seconds from flying into four fully loaded passenger aircraft at San Francisco Airport. If this aviation accident had occurred, it would have been one of the worst in history. Due to good visibility this July night the aircraft's automatic landing system was shut off and the pilot prepared for a manual landing. The pilot thought he were flying towards the runway, but in reality he was heading for the taxiway. At approx. 55 m from the ground the tower called to abort the landing. At its lowest, it was 4.5 meters between the plane and the aircrafts on the ground.
Through painting, Nils Elvebakk Skalegård interprets the moment as the pilot realizes that he will fly into these planes. The paintings deal with the incident as seen from the pilot's inner world.
The exhibition includes a written work co-authored by writer Martin Rydningen.
Skalegård has graduated from the Bergen Academy of Fine Arts (BFA, 2011) and Valand Academy of Fine Arts (MFA, 2013) Previously, he has exhibited at Göteborg Konsthall, Malmö Konsthall, Huset for Kunst og Design, Holstebro and Vigelands Museet. In July he will present a permanent sculpture to Skovsnogen, Deep Forest Artland in Kibæk.
